Ditch Your Makeup Primer Now!

Do you use a primer under your foundation?

Why? Is it because you read it in a magazine or someone told you that you needed it the last time you took a trip to Sephora? Well, I’m going to tell you that you can ditch the makeup primer in your makeup bag!! (Gasp!)

Primers are just another gimmicky makeup product that companies make to sell to you (it’s all about that money, honey!) They advertise it as “Your makeup will last all day” when in reality, it doesn’t. If you don’t believe me, try not using it for a couple of days and see the difference.

Did you know that 99% of pro makeup artists don’t use face primers

unless they work on someone with texture issues? Even then, it’s only spot treated and not applied to the whole entire face. So, if we aren’t using primers under foundation then what ARE we using?!?

Proper skin prep with good-quality skincare products!! Say Whaaat?!??

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

1. EXFOLIATE

The removal of dead skin. Think of this as old, cracked, peeling paint. You need to remove the old paint so you can see the wall before you start painting it a different colour. Same with makeup. You need to remove the old, dead flaky skin so you have a clean smooth surface to apply your makeup on. Best part, this exfoliator can be used from face to toe! Hop in the shower and start spraying and rubbing yourself all over and see the dead skin ball up. Sooooo gross, but so satisfying!

2. ELIXIRS AND SERUMS

These have beneficial active ingredients for the skin such as peptides, ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, squalane, etc. Since the molecules are smaller, it tends to go deeper into the layers of the skin. If your skin is dehydrated and you apply your foundation, your skin will be sucking up the water that's in the foundation leaving your skin all patchy and who wants patchy foundation??

Elixirs and Serums will cost a bit more, but your skin will literally drink it up and thank you.

3. FACIAL OILS

Lube for your skin! Yup, I totally said Lube. Some faces need a little extra help (I’m talking to you Sun-worshippers). Facial oils help keep moisture in the skin for super dry, neglected skin. It can also HELP with oily skin. Yes, putting an oil on oily skin will help your skin not become oily! (another Gasp!) Why you ask?? You could be stripping away the natural oils on your skin, making your skin freak out, and causing your skin to overproduce oil. This Water Oil is on of my fav’s because it dries down super fast so when it’s ready to apply your makeup it’s already absorbed into your skin.

4. MOISTURIZER

A product that everyone knows and uses. There are many types of moisturizers out on the market for your specific skin type. If you’re really lazy and don’t want to use any elixirs, serums or oils, I suggest you find a good quality moisturizer for your skin type. If you have combination skin, such as T-zone oily and dry everywhere else, you’ll need to buy a moisturizer for oily skin to use on your T-zone and a hydrating moisturizer for your dry areas. This Waterbalm is my holy grail. It plumps and hydrates the skin leaving it feeling like a smooth wet dolphin!

5. FOUNDATION

If you are using a good quality foundation, not a drug store brand, the ingredients are better so there's already a built-in primer!

So, now that you know your primer in your makeup bag isn’t doing what it says it’s doing. Would you consider ditching it and embracing a good skincare routine?
