What Makeup Brands Do You Use?

The most common question I get asked is:

“What Makeup Brands do you use? Do you stick to one brand?”

My simple answer is, No, I use a bunch of different makeup brands.

My core makeup kit is made up of high-quality professional brands that are not sold at Nordstroms or Sephora. Professional brands that are made to withstand the loooooong hours on a movie set or the hot bright lights on a theatre stage.

SKINCARE: I carry the whole skincare line by Sonia Roselli. She’s a makeup artist turned skincare creator because she couldn’t find anything on the market that met her needs, so she created her own line. Let me tell you, EVERYTHING that she has created is beautiful and works with every skin type. The Sex-A-Peel exfoliator will literally scuff off layers of dead skin in a matter of seconds! Without proper skin care, your makeup won’t look its best.

PRIMER: NONE! Whaaaaaaat?!?? Read my blog post HERE on why you should ditch your primer for proper SKIN CARE.

Temptu Silicon Based Foundations

Custom mixing RCMA Foundation

FOUNDATION: RCMA, Face Atelier, Temptu (silicone-based and hydralock), Kyrolan Derma Color, Makeup Atelier

The foundations I carry are made up of oils, waxes, dimethicone, which is a silicon-based oil, and silicon. All of which are long-lasting and I choose and custom mix the right foundation for the type of skin you have.

My favourite one to use is the RCMA that was created in 1962 by another makeup artist by the name of Vincent JR Kehoe and the formula hasn’t changed since the day it was created. If it’s good enough for Queen B singing and dancing around on stage, it’ll be perfect on your wedding day.

Cle de Peau cream blush

BLUSH: RCMA, Clea Du Peau and NARS

I have a selection of liquid, cream and powder blushes and I love to layer them lightly so it has a longer staying power.

You betcha I have the NARS Orgasm in my kit! That colour looks incredible on everyone, especially the liquid form.

BRONZER: NARS and Chanel

NARS Laguna and the Chanel Tan de Soleil both give the perfect sun-kissed glow, not to mention the Chanel bronzer smells amazing!

Viseart eyeshadow palettes

EYE SHADOWS: Viseart, NARS, and recently added Stila Shimmer & Glow for a little sparkle

When Viseart eye shadows entered the pro makeup world, I knew I had to buy them. They are so pigmented and true to their colour. Have you ever bought an eyeshadow and when you put it on there’s barely any colour?? Not with the Viseart shadows, that’s why I love them so much!

EYEBROWS: Senna, Clairol Root Touch Up Powder

Clairol Root Touch Up Powder, best kept secret that won’t be a secret anymore

I love using the Senna Brow Book because it has every shade of natural hair colour found in eyebrows. Have you ever looked at blonde eyebrows and notice it has a tinge of green? This brow book has that tinge of green but made for blonde brow hairs! My best kept (not so) secret is using the Clairol root touch up powder on brows as well. They are made to last all day without giving that caked on waxy look. It’s what I use on my own eyebrows and if you know me, I’m OBSESSED with eyebrow products. Not to mention, it only costs $12!

SETTING SPRAY: PPI Blue Marble Selr

I use a film grade setting spray. It’s specifically made for TV/Film to keep makeup last all day and you can still do touchups overtop without causing any blotchiness.

I take pride in all the brands and products that I carry. Now that you’ve taken a peek at my makeup kit, do you love what you see??

Ditch Your Makeup Primer Now!

Do you use a primer under your foundation?

Why? Is it because you read it in a magazine or someone told you that you needed it the last time you took a trip to Sephora? Well, I’m going to tell you that you can ditch the makeup primer in your makeup bag!! (Gasp!)

Primers are just another gimmicky makeup product that companies make to sell to you. They advertise it as “Your makeup will last all day” when in reality, it doesn’t. If you don’t believe me, try not using it for a couple of days and see the difference.

Did you know that 99% of pro makeup artists don’t use face primers unless they work on someone with texture issues? Even then, it’s only spot treated and not applied to the whole entire face. So, if we aren’t using primers under foundation then what ARE we using?!?

Proper skin prep with good skin care products!! Say Whaaat?!??

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

1. EXFOLIATE.

The removal of dead skin. Think of this as old, cracked, peeling paint. You need to remove the old paint so you can see the wall before you start painting it a different colour. Same with makeup. You need to remove the old, dead flaky skin so you have a clean smooth surface to apply your makeup on. This exfoliator can be used from face to toe!

Water Elixir

Water Elixir

2. ELIXIRS AND SERUMS

These have beneficial active ingredients for the skin such as peptides, ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, squalane, etc. Since the molecules are smaller, it tends to go deeper into the layers of the skin. If your skin is dehydrated and you apply your foundation, your skin will be sucking up the water that's in the foundation leaving your skin all patchy.

Water Oil

Water Oil

3. FACIAL OILS.

Lube for your skin! Yup, some faces need a little extra help. Facial oils help keep moisture in the skin for super dry, neglected skin. It can also HELP with oily skin. Yes, putting an oil on oily skin will help your skin not become oily! (another Gasp!) Why you ask?? You could be stripping away the natural oils on your skin, making your skin freak out, and causing your skin to overproduce oil.

Waterbalm

Waterbalm

4. MOISTURIZER.

A product that everyone knows and uses. There are many types of moisturizes out on the market for your specific skin type. If you’re really lazy and don’t want to use any elixirs, serums or oils, I suggest you find a good quality moisturizer for your skin type. If you have combination skin, such as T-zone oily and dry everywhere else, you’ll need to buy a moisturizer for oily skin to use it on your T-zone and a hydrating moisturizer for your dry areas.

5. FOUNDATION.

If you are using a good quality foundation, not a drug store brand, the ingredients are better so there's already a built-in primer!

So, now that you know your primer in your makeup bag isn’t doing what it says it’s doing. Would you consider ditching it and embracing a good skin care routine?

What happens in Vegas... Gets Published!!!!

Three months ago I took a trip to Sin City, Las Vegas, to collaborate on a super fun, colourful styled photo shoot with a group of wedding vendors all flying down from Seattle. This was defintely my "adult" trip as we stayed off the strip in an AirBnB and bought GROCERIES!!! Seriously! I didn't stay out all night in my 4inch heels and make a pit stop before heading back to the hotel for a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich either. #Adulting

Today, it's been PUBLISHED in 100 Layer Cake an online wedding blog. Check it out HERE.

It was a long 72hours but with an amazing team we managed to capture the essence of the famous Vegas elopement. I went with a smokey eye makeup and bolder lip colour to compliment the Las Vegas surroundings since it was an elopement style wedding. Anything traditional was out the door!

Day 1 was at Fun City Motel, catching golden hour, when sunlight turns magical, or as Urban Dictionary describes it as "The time between 5:30-6:00 eastern time when lightskins take bomb as f*ck pictures" (Thank you for the definition) The photos defintely were bomb as f*ck pictures!

Day 2 was a very, very early start (4:30am) as we needed to get to Seven Magic Mountains before we start sweating in the desert heat. And before it gets too busy from other tourists to shoot. If you haven't been to Seven Magic Mountains, I highly suggest you check it out, it's only 30min south of the Las Vegas strip.

After the day is done we CELEBRATE!! Making our way to the Vegas strip to go eat at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel for their famous Steak Frites and of course, we must have wine. This was by far the most fun, most intense work trip I've been on and I can't wait to do it all over again in October with these Fab 4!!

Road Trip to Cape Kiwanda

The rain stopped just as we got to Cape Kiwanda.

The rain stopped just as we got to Cape Kiwanda.

A couple weeks ago I went on a little (5hr drive) road trip down to Cape Kiwanda, Pacific City, Oregon with Erika Hernandez, the owner of The Greatest Adventure Wedding & Elopements . The weather was a typical Pacific Northwest rain. Rain that would not stop for days.

As we reached our final destination in Cape Kiwanda, the clouds started to break and the sun was trying its hardest to come out. The Oregon Coast is beautiful. Cape Kiwanda has a giant sand dune that you can climb up and explore the top where you can see the big cliffs and crashing waves. This beach is also one of the only beaches that you can drive your vehicle out onto the sand!

FullSizeRender_7.jpg

We checked into Hart's Camp, a newly opened vintage and modern airstream camp site just one block away from Cape Kiwanda.  It is the ultimate luxury glamping experience! Let me tell you, this airstream campsite was the cutest campsite I had ever seen! There were fat black bunnies all over the place, happily hopping around the campsites and an outdoor rainfall shower with a vertical succulent and fern garden. If it wasn’t 7˚C (45˚F) rainy and wet, I would have tried the outdoor shower.

As a makeup artist you never know where you will be getting ready and having the proper equipment is crucial. I never leave home without The Makeup Light and on this trip it served as my light for getting Paean ready as well as lighting up our airstream when the sun went down. Bonus!!

Gabi and Brandon Fox, an awesome wife and husband photography duo, of The Foxes Photography, shot this inspired elopement. Our luck ran out as soon as we walked over to the beach. The sun slid back behind the clouds and it started raining again! Our couple, Paean and Nick, embraced the weather and had fun outside. Who doesn’t love playing outside in the rain? Ok, maybe not in a wedding dress.

What IS a YUMI™ Lash Lift?!???

Summer is just around the corner (finally!) in the Pacific Northwest and that means, boating, camping, hiking and basically not wearing a ton of makeup. If you're anything like me, I only wear tinted moisturizer, blush, curl my eyelashes and apply at least two coasts of mascara.... oh, and not to forget, I HAVE to fill in my eyebrows otherwise I look like an alien!

I've tried eyelash extensions and I love how they look for the first week.... then I literally start to pull them off! I know, I know, I'm not suppose to pull them off, but I get annoyed at them. I'm a stomach sleeper, eye-rubber, and I love to stick my face under the hot shower, all of which are a huge No-No when you get eyelash extensions. Not to mention, you have to get them filled every few weeks, otherwise they start to look a bit spidery. I never made it that far along because I pulled it all out of my eyes!

Then I tried the YUMI™ Eyelash Lift and Tint. Oh My Goodness... it's AH-MAZING!!! I loved how it looked on my eyelashes that I thought to myself “I must learn how to do this so I can have EVERYONE feel the same way I feel about my eyelashes as I do now”   I'm proud to say I'm a certified YUMI™ Eyelash Lift Technician!

What IS a YUMI™ Lash Lift and Tint you ask?

It's an enhancement of your natural eyelashes without the use of harsh chemicals, formaldehyde or parabens. Seriously, who wants that near your eyeballs?? The best part is that it will last 8-12 WEEKS, the natural cycle of your eyelashes. For me, I loved how I can wash and rub my eyes, sleep on my stomach and my eyelashes looked like I had curled and used mascara on them. Instant eye lift without doing anything!!

YUMI™ Lashes supplies to make some magic on your eyelashes

YUMI™ Lashes supplies to make some magic on your eyelashes

How does it work?

I glue your eyelashes onto a silicon pad, each customized for your own eyelashes.  They get sculpted and separated at the root, making sure each eyelash is straight and not clumped together. This part gets a bit science-y; a series of patent technology cream products gets applied on your eyelashes and does its magic. It targets the keratin in your eyelash hairs so it can be manipulated and stays like that. Side note- because of this process some people are calling it a Keratin Lash Lift.  After I wipe off the magic cream, I use the YUMI™ brand of tints and tint your eyelashes, giving it a mascara-like look. Once I clean up your eyelashes, I give it a sweep of nourishing mascara and give you the mirror.  Every single one of my clients first words are "Wow!" or "Oh my God!" and they stare in disbelief that what they are seeing are their OWN eyelashes. With those types of reactions from my clients (and myself) when first looked in the mirror, wouldn't you want to try it for yourself??

Before and After the YUMI™ Lash Lift and Tint

Before and After the YUMI™ Lash Lift and Tint

Yes, there are other eyelash lift brands out on the market but I personally chose to train with the YUMI™ brand because it is the first company to create and patent this technology in 2008. That's almost 10years ago!!!!! The YUMI™ brand is proven to last a couple weeks longer based on my instructor's first hand experience AND what other brands are advertising (4-6 weeks). It's kinda like buying a Channel purse vs a knock off on the street markets in Asia. It looks and feels the same, but eventually, it will start of fall apart. Trust me, I've bought my share of knock off purses!

If you are interested in the YUMI™ eyelash lift and tint or want to know more about where I got trained, please email me at - artist@lisungoh.com  You can also check out more before and after photos here: https://www.lisungoh.com/yumi/

If you have had your own experiences with the lash lift, leave a comment below, I'd love to hear from you :)

Meet your new West Seattle Makeup Artist and YUMI™ Eyelash Lift Magician!!

Hi!

My name is LiSun, I am a professional makeup artist, YUMI™ eyelash lift technician, Girlie-girl, wife and Fur-Mama!! Very introverted, until you get to know me or I've had a couple glasses of some kind of booze, is someone pouring me a glass of wine yet? Goofy and sometimes a bit blonde...well maybe more then sometimes! Welcome to my very first blog post. I will share with you, as a working makeup artist, tips, tricks, product knowledge and anything I think is useful to create a beautiful you!

I was raised in North Vancouver, Canada and moved to this side of the boarder 1.5years ago. Time has flown by so quickly since I have been married; moving to Seattle was my new adventure in my life and settling down in West Seattle felt natural as it reminded me of where I grew up.

As a professional makeup artist, at first part-time, I finally made the decision to go for it full-time when I landed in USA - new country, new life, new ME! My love of makeup started when I was 6 years old and it never stopped.

I have expanded my skills and I am now doing the YUMI™ Eyelash Lift and Tint.  What is this??  Well, let me tell you, once you have tried it you will be hooked! I sculpt your own natural eyelashes over a silicone pad, apply the product, let it sit, tint your eyelashes and in less then 1.5hours you will look like you have curled and applied mascara on them! The best part... is that it will last for WEEKS! Yes, weeks!! Stay with me and I will be doing a blog post about the lift soon.

I wish to share the same love and passion I have for my profession, my favorite products I use; not only on my clientele but myself as well. I love making someone feel beautiful about themselves not changing how they look but truly bringing out their natural beauties that lay within.
