Ditch Your Makeup Primer Now!

Do you use a primer under your foundation?

Why? Is it because you read it in a magazine or someone told you that you needed it the last time you took a trip to Sephora? Well, I’m going to tell you that you can ditch the makeup primer in your makeup bag!! (Gasp!)

Primers are just another gimmicky makeup product that companies make to sell to you. They advertise it as “Your makeup will last all day” when in reality, it doesn’t. If you don’t believe me, try not using it for a couple of days and see the difference.

Did you know that 99% of pro makeup artists don’t use face primers unless they work on someone with texture issues? Even then, it’s only spot treated and not applied to the whole entire face. So, if we aren’t using primers under foundation then what ARE we using?!?

Proper skin prep with good skin care products!! Say Whaaat?!??

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

Sex-A-Peel Exfoliator

1. EXFOLIATE.

The removal of dead skin. Think of this as old, cracked, peeling paint. You need to remove the old paint so you can see the wall before you start painting it a different colour. Same with makeup. You need to remove the old, dead flaky skin so you have a clean smooth surface to apply your makeup on. This exfoliator can be used from face to toe!

Water Elixir

2. ELIXIRS AND SERUMS

These have beneficial active ingredients for the skin such as peptides, ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, squalane, etc. Since the molecules are smaller, it tends to go deeper into the layers of the skin. If your skin is dehydrated and you apply your foundation, your skin will be sucking up the water that's in the foundation leaving your skin all patchy.

Water Oil

3. FACIAL OILS.

Lube for your skin! Yup, some faces need a little extra help. Facial oils help keep moisture in the skin for super dry, neglected skin. It can also HELP with oily skin. Yes, putting an oil on oily skin will help your skin not become oily! (another Gasp!) Why you ask?? You could be stripping away the natural oils on your skin, making your skin freak out, and causing your skin to overproduce oil.

Waterbalm

4. MOISTURIZER.

A product that everyone knows and uses. There are many types of moisturizes out on the market for your specific skin type. If you’re really lazy and don’t want to use any elixirs, serums or oils, I suggest you find a good quality moisturizer for your skin type. If you have combination skin, such as T-zone oily and dry everywhere else, you’ll need to buy a moisturizer for oily skin to use it on your T-zone and a hydrating moisturizer for your dry areas.

5. FOUNDATION.

If you are using a good quality foundation, not a drug store brand, the ingredients are better so there's already a built-in primer!

So, now that you know your primer in your makeup bag isn’t doing what it says it’s doing. Would you consider ditching it and embracing a good skin care routine?

What happens in Vegas... Gets Published!!!!

Three months ago I took a trip to Sin City, Las Vegas, to collaborate on a super fun, colourful styled photo shoot with a group of wedding vendors all flying down from Seattle. This was defintely my "adult" trip as we stayed off the strip in an AirBnB and bought GROCERIES!!! Seriously! I didn't stay out all night in my 4inch heels and make a pit stop before heading back to the hotel for a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich either. #Adulting

Today, it's been PUBLISHED in 100 Layer Cake an online wedding blog. Check it out HERE.

It was a long 72hours but with an amazing team we managed to capture the essence of the famous Vegas elopement. I went with a smokey eye makeup and bolder lip colour to compliment the Las Vegas surroundings since it was an elopement style wedding. Anything traditional was out the door!

Day 1 was at Fun City Motel, catching golden hour, when sunlight turns magical, or as Urban Dictionary describes it as "The time between 5:30-6:00 eastern time when lightskins take bomb as f*ck pictures" (Thank you for the definition) The photos defintely were bomb as f*ck pictures!

Day 2 was a very, very early start (4:30am) as we needed to get to Seven Magic Mountains before we start sweating in the desert heat. And before it gets too busy from other tourists to shoot. If you haven't been to Seven Magic Mountains, I highly suggest you check it out, it's only 30min south of the Las Vegas strip.

After the day is done we CELEBRATE!! Making our way to the Vegas strip to go eat at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel for their famous Steak Frites and of course, we must have wine. This was by far the most fun, most intense work trip I've been on and I can't wait to do it all over again in October with these Fab 4!!

Road Trip to Cape Kiwanda

The rain stopped just as we got to Cape Kiwanda.

The rain stopped just as we got to Cape Kiwanda.

A couple weeks ago I went on a little (5hr drive) road trip down to Cape Kiwanda, Pacific City, Oregon with Erika Hernandez, the owner of The Greatest Adventure Wedding & Elopements . The weather was a typical Pacific Northwest rain. Rain that would not stop for days.

As we reached our final destination in Cape Kiwanda, the clouds started to break and the sun was trying its hardest to come out. The Oregon Coast is beautiful. Cape Kiwanda has a giant sand dune that you can climb up and explore the top where you can see the big cliffs and crashing waves. This beach is also one of the only beaches that you can drive your vehicle out onto the sand!

We checked into Hart's Camp, a newly opened vintage and modern airstream camp site just one block away from Cape Kiwanda.  It is the ultimate luxury glamping experience! Let me tell you, this airstream campsite was the cutest campsite I had ever seen! There were fat black bunnies all over the place, happily hopping around the campsites and an outdoor rainfall shower with a vertical succulent and fern garden. If it wasn’t 7˚C (45˚F) rainy and wet, I would have tried the outdoor shower.

As a makeup artist you never know where you will be getting ready and having the proper equipment is crucial. I never leave home without The Makeup Light and on this trip it served as my light for getting Paean ready as well as lighting up our airstream when the sun went down. Bonus!!

Gabi and Brandon Fox, an awesome wife and husband photography duo, of The Foxes Photography, shot this inspired elopement. Our luck ran out as soon as we walked over to the beach. The sun slid back behind the clouds and it started raining again! Our couple, Paean and Nick, embraced the weather and had fun outside. Who doesn’t love playing outside in the rain? Ok, maybe not in a wedding dress.

Meet your new West Seattle Makeup Artist and YUMI™ Eyelash Lift Magician!!

Hi!

My name is LiSun, I am a professional makeup artist, YUMI™ eyelash lift technician, Girlie-girl, wife and Fur-Mama!! Very introverted, until you get to know me or I've had a couple glasses of some kind of booze, is someone pouring me a glass of wine yet? Goofy and sometimes a bit blonde...well maybe more then sometimes! Welcome to my very first blog post. I will share with you, as a working makeup artist, tips, tricks, product knowledge and anything I think is useful to create a beautiful you!

I was raised in North Vancouver, Canada and moved to this side of the boarder 1.5years ago. Time has flown by so quickly since I have been married; moving to Seattle was my new adventure in my life and settling down in West Seattle felt natural as it reminded me of where I grew up.

As a professional makeup artist, at first part-time, I finally made the decision to go for it full-time when I landed in USA - new country, new life, new ME! My love of makeup started when I was 6 years old and it never stopped.

I have expanded my skills and I am now doing the YUMI™ Eyelash Lift and Tint.  What is this??  Well, let me tell you, once you have tried it you will be hooked! I sculpt your own natural eyelashes over a silicone pad, apply the product, let it sit, tint your eyelashes and in less then 1.5hours you will look like you have curled and applied mascara on them! The best part... is that it will last for WEEKS! Yes, weeks!! Stay with me and I will be doing a blog post about the lift soon.

I wish to share the same love and passion I have for my profession, my favorite products I use; not only on my clientele but myself as well. I love making someone feel beautiful about themselves not changing how they look but truly bringing out their natural beauties that lay within.
