Congratulations, you’re getting married!! Now, the wedding planning begins and your budget is being eaten up by the venue, catering, photographer, florals, wedding gown, shoes, grooms attire, etc, etc, etc.

I get it, weddings are expensive and I totally understand that you want to save where you can. And that usually means saving on the beauty portion of the wedding. Your cousin’s friends friend knows how to do makeup or is a makeup enthusiast and has agreed to do it for you on your wedding day for free. You’re thinking “That’s so awesome, I can save some money!”

Well… let me tell you 8 reasons why you should hire a professional makeup artist.

  1. I spent years perfecting my skill and continue to learn and grow by taking educational classes, reading and playing with new makeup products. With so many new products that come out on the market, I’m always researching which ones that will be the most productive and pass my sweaty, all-day test before it goes into my pro makeup kit. And if you’re wondering what my sweaty all-day test is, it’s where I put the makeup on myself and go to my HIIT class and sweat my butt off! Yes, that’s right, I test it at the gym.

  2. I will know what products to use based on your skin type and how to apply it to make sure your makeup will look flawless in person and in photos that will last all day in all types of weather conditions. There’s a huge difference between putting makeup on for a night out with the girls and bridal makeup that needs to last all day and night while being photographed up close. Trust me, your photographer will know the difference when they are editing your photos and needs to zoom in 200% on your face.

  3. I know different techniques on how to apply the makeup to enhance your best facial features and not do a “paint by numbers” makeup application. You know, the kids painting set that you follow the numbers to where the colour goes. If your eyes are uneven, because everyone’s face isn’t perfectly symmetrical, I will make your eyes look even by applying the eyeliner thicker on one side. Every face shape is different and the makeup should enhance the best parts on you.  Like I said before, I don’t do a “paint by numbers” application.

  4. Remember your cousin’s friends friend that said she would do your wedding day makeup for free? Well, she now called you to tell you she’s going boating, camping, a music festival, a friends birthday BBQ party, (fill in the blank with whatever fun summer activity here) and can’t do your makeup anymore. Remember, she’s not a professional so she doesn’t treat doing your wedding day makeup like a professional. I, on the other hand, take each wedding booking very seriously. I sacrifice every weekend in the summer to come to you to beautify you on your special day because I want to and I love doing it!

  5. I have worked on hundreds of weddings, so I know how to run my mornings and not be late. Running late is THE WORSE thing that can happen. It cuts into your time with the photographer that you’ve paid so much money for, you get anxious, and everyone around you is telling you that it’s ok and that the wedding can’t start without you. And that’s true, the wedding can’t start without you, but at the same time, there’s no reason to be late if your morning schedule is organized and everything runs smoothly, stress-free and relaxed.

  6. Being sanitary. What does this mean? It means I do not double-dip into any cream, liquid or wet makeup products that will harbour bacteria. I scoop out everything that I need onto a palette with a palette knife before it goes on your face so my products are clean and bacteria-free! I also keep a fan in my makeup kit so when I apply your lashes and need the glue to dry faster I’m not blowing in your face. Diseases and germs can spread from one person onto the next and the next thing you know, you have pinkeye on your honeymoon. Not so sexy.

  7. A Cohesive look for your whole bridal squad. You’ve taken the time to plan out their dress colour, dress style, shoes and nails so why not have that same cohesive look for their beauty? Remember, they will also be in your photos forever and if that one bridesmaid ended up doing their own makeup and decides to wear bright purple eyeshadow to match her dress, you’d wish you had a makeup artist do everyone’s makeup.

  8. You are worth it! Enough said. You are worth it and should be pampered on your special day. Nothing is more memorable than sitting back with all your best friends in the bridal suite, sipping mimosas, laughing, listening to music and letting the professionals do all the work while you enjoy a stress-free morning.
